Downsizing means I have no use for such a large lawnmower, hence the sale of my MTD Lawnflite 603, bought new from a local dealer in 2005, the equipment is in excellent condition and comprises the motor unit with a cutting deck and fan assisted grass clippings removal. Demountable rear grass collector or external chute, to leave clippings on the ground.… Read the full article
Glass Prints
I stated some months ago about offering prints of my photographic work on a new site called Parlington Gallery at www.parlington.biz. Initially the site was set up to display some local landscape paintings done by Anthony Christian who lives nearby, and to this date these are all that are on the site.… Read the full article
Leeds – Liverpool Canal
I recently joined the Leeds Photographic Society (LPS), apparently the oldest in the world! I hope to improve my photographic skills by discovering other members techniques, time will tell. Anyhow this last Tuesday, the society meets twice monthly during the summer months, we met at the Leeds Wharf and spent an evening photographing every thing between Leeds and Armley.… Read the full article
Lotherton Parlington Exhibition Closes
Having not written any articles recently, I felt I should add a short note about my exhibition of Parlington artefacts that have been on display at Lotherton Hall these last six months and more. Today the items have been taken down and packed into boxes, to return to Parlington, so ends my first mini-exhibition, which by all accounts was well received.… Read the full article
Ready Set Go! Election 2010
Day two of the 2010 election campaign, and as I drove up past a rather sinister looking Triumphal Arch, see picture above, I took a few moments out to grab a shot of it. I believe it was trying to tell me something, it was erected as a rejection of the policies of Lord North and the monarch George III, with their unpopular civil war against the American Colonialists.… Read the full article
Brodsworth Hall, Yorkshire
If you enjoy visiting the many heritage sites around the UK and you are in the vicinity of Yorkshire, Brodsworth Hall is a must, and a full circuit of the gardens should not be overlooked, the above picture is of the Grotto, which is fashioned within what was the quarry which provided stone for the hall.… Read the full article
Approaching the General Election
The looming prospect of a General Election, leaves me in a quandary, I am desperate to see the back of the labour party, but I am equally unconvinced by the somewhat wet Conservative opposition. Labour have had thirteen years, and by any measure, we can see the wrecked economy, you only need to consider that the Government’s share of national spending has moved from around 36% at the time Labour took office in 1997 to around 52% today.… Read the full article
The Sting, the Pig and a bunch of MP’s
I watched that excellent film, The Sting, starring Paul Newman, (now sadly the late) and Robert Redford the other evening and it reminded me of the recent Channel Four Despatches programme in which Stephen Byers, Patricia Hewitt, Geof Hoon and Margaret Moran were set up in an undercover operation to reveal the murky goings on by our MP’s, using their influence to affect an outcome for a fee.… Read the full article
Limestone Quarries
Jackdaw Quarry
One of the great features of Yorkshire is the wide variety of quality stone which is to be found across the county, around Aberford on the Parlington Estate and on the north bank of the Cock Beck are numerous worked out old quarries, looking closely at the stone face you can often find the quarrying marks, holes drilled for explosives.… Read the full article
Photos are King
Yesterday I posted some pictures of Tewkesbury, which I believe set the scene in that part of the world, but remember local photographs of Parlington can hold up against most things. The picture here is of the driveway with a slight mist affecting the ground levels but the trees are dreamlike, and all is enhanced by a wild sky.… Read the full article
