The Manning Wardle Ghost Train

Ghost Train

I know I stated that the previous post was my last entry, given I have now left Parlington, well I had a weird dream last night where I was standing above the railway line on the south side of the Dark Arch and I watched the ghostly train go by! Yes very far fetched but I awoke this morning thinking it had really happened! I decided to add this brief post along with an earlier view I created using Sketchup, hope you like the ghost train, the MW Empress (Manning Wardle Locomotive Engineers, Hunslet, Leeds)!

In this view I am standing near the location of the long gone pedestrian footbridge that spanned the railway. Below is a picture of the train outside the cottage at Lilly Pit Hawk’s Nest on the Fly Line around the early twentieth century, like the train and railway the cottage is long gone!

  1. Oops, the picture was taken at Hawke’s Nest, not Lilly Pit Cottage, although they were very much the same! Hawke’s Nest Cottage was later demolished, (it was still around at the time of the 1938 sale) but I know not when!
